/div>Size always matters when it comes to 3D design, especially if you intend for them to be viewed on mobile devices.
When it comes to WebAR file size limits 18-20MB should be your cap however, 5-10MB is actually a better limit for an experience to run smoothly in a mobile browser on most devices with a decent internet connection.
The file size of a 3D AR experience is generally the sum of the number of polygons, and the materials and textures used, and the length and complexity of any animations (when used), which all translates to the quality of the image and how realistic the objects appear.
Knowing your limits will have a significant effect on what you can and cannot do in terms of reaching your goal.

Using 3D Templates for WebAR
AR Templates are 3D models of common items – picture frames, art canvas, wallpaper, rugs, t-shirts, cushions – that house your 2D images, patterns, textures and designs, bringing it to life for your customers.
AR Templates eliminate repetitive, time-consuming 3D modelling tasks by allowing you to apply the same 3D model to unlimited product designs without re-constructing the design each time.
One 3D product template can be used for your entire product range so you can replicate and grow your 3D augmented reality product library fast. Plus, using the same template keeps your brand’s look and feel consistent across your website.
Our free 3D template library contains a host of different 3d models suited to artists, photographers, interior designers, commercial products like flooring and wall products, curtains and cushions to name a few. Templates can be created from almost any product and best suited to items that are commonly repeated with different designs, images or patterns.
Contact 3D Template support if you would like to know more.

Converting 2D image files into 3D & WebAR
You can use any JPEG or PNG image that you’d like to turn into a WebAR file.
The maximum upload file size for JPEG or PNG images is 4Mb uncompressed. The lower the file size the quicker the load time and therefore a better user experience for your customers.
As a guide we recommend the longest edge of your image be 1000-1500 pixels in length at 150-200 dpi. Clean, sharp and true-to-colour images provide the best results.
Yes, definitely. Please crop your image to size and to ratio before uploading.
If you are photographing your artworks or using your existing online images, please crop and remove any excess detail including backgrounds or drop shadows if used.
There are a number of online tools that will help you remove the white background on images including image editing applications such as Photoshop. Once the background has been removed you can then save the image as a PNG file with transparent background.
Upload the PNG into the 2D converter then use either the decal, tattoo or t-shirt template to convert your file and view the design.

Here’s a couple of quick tips to reduce model file sizes to better optimize your AR viewing experience.
- Use smaller image textures. These can be saved down to 1024 x 1024px, often with no loss of image quality to the final render.
- Save a JPEG where possible.
- Simplify meshes (remove polygons). The more vertices you have in camera, the more time it takes to render.
- Remove doubles or use the decimator mesh edit feature.
- Remove subdivision surface and multiresolution modifiers.
We recommend swapping the 4K textures to 2K or lower to instantly bring down the file size. This will help optimise your files and ultimately provide a much better AR experience when viewed on the mobile web without losing quality.
Our team uses 3DS Max which is good for optimizing and baking textures and then exporting into CartMagician.
glTF minimizes both the size of 3D assets, and the runtime processing needed to unpack and use those assets. glTF defines an extensible, common publishing format for 3D content tools and services that streamlines authoring workflows and enables interoperable use of content across the industry.

Troubleshooting
Please ensure that you have connected your Website to CartMagician to enable the WebAR functionality. Log in to cartmagician.com then under settings select ‘Connect your website’
Follow this link to Connect WebAR your Website
This is a common problem with some 3D modelling applications including SolidWorks and Keyshot. The same misalignment problem can also occur when you place files in Blender, Unity or Unreal.
There is an easy fix (well documented online) – simply select the components of your model and reset all transforms to ‘0’. Start with the components that are misaligned. Once this is done you can also reset the world origin ‘0’ so that your model is centered when viewed. This will correct the positioning and make sure that your components are not misaligned when converting in CartMagician.
For further information please refer to the CartMagician Getting Started Guides for helpful information, links and video tutorials.
